The Most Wonderful Time of The Year

Merry Christmas to all.

Today was a wonderful day. Actually, it has been a wonderful month, but these last couple of days have been extra special. The Christmas holiday is upon us and it could not have been a better time.

Teagan has all but perfected gift opening. She has a bit of style and elegance about her as she pulls a piece of paper and refuses to put it on the ground. No, no, it needs to go to the closer of mommy or daddy. It will always come along with a sweet, little "Here you go." As soon as the paper is removed, you hear her go "Oooooohh" or "Yeaaaaaaaah" even though she has only gotten to the box.

She really did enjoy most of her gifts. She got a dancing Elmo, clothes, books, blocks and a trampoline. She played and played and played... so long as Santa wasn't around. She has developed a bit of a shy streak lately. Let me correct that, she is getting quite shy. Every time we have come remotely close to Santa, there have been tears. Luckily, the tears dry up quickly with the help of mommy, daddy and some wonderful cousins, aunts and uncles.

Teagan had a great time playing with the other kids in the family. She got some good bonding time in with Jenna, Jordan, Taylor, Cash, Clara and Vincent. All of the kids were pretty well behaved. Teagan was especially interested in Aiden. Aiden, likewise, sat and smiled at Teagan for as long as he could.

Overall, Christmas was wonderful. It will continue... there will be more to this story.

WOW!!!!!

It is a magical time of year. The lights are up, the wind is blowing and snow will soon find us. As the wind blows briskly across our faces, we walk to the car. As always, I flip Teagan into her car seat and buckle her in. This event is usually mixed with random cheering and congratulations from one of us to the other as we learn to buckle the harness. I lean over, get a kiss from my little girl and hop in the car.

Our journey home used to be filled with random conversations that end in one word answers of "yep" or "no" or with singing multiple songs. Now that the darkness is coming earlier, we are filled with the visions of many different Christmas decorations. Lights in particular, make her smile, gasp and say "WOW!!!! Pretty Lights." As we drive home, we point out each house. Teagan smiles, says wow and then says "bye lights" until we find our next set.

When we get home, we run to the front of the house and flip the switch for the outside lights. We then head to the living room couch and sit patiently until I can get to the switch for the tree lights. It is an amazing sight to watch her as the lights come on. Her eyes literally sparkle. Her smile grows larger and you can tell she loves what she sees.

I am waiting for the first significant snow fall to see how she reacts to playing in the snow. I wonder how well she will do with opening presents. And then I come to one last wondering thought.... how will she do with Santa this year?

What a mouth this kid has!

Little miss vocabulary has spoken up! Teagan is constantly repeating everything we're saying. Lucky for us she hasn't picked up on any bad words yet.

Things that are likely to come out of her mouth:

  • Ready! - I'm ready - read it really enthusiastically

  • Momma... come - This happend the other night when we were playing with building blocks, I was on the couch and she walked up to me, grabbed my hand, pulled and instructed me to follow her to the floor. When I did not listen she said it again, and again - pulling and pulling until I followed.

  • Momma - Where are you? - Read momma as mo-ma and sing a little when you say where are you. Super cute when she cant find one of us.

  • Daddy - Where are you? (She was looking for him the other day when he was away from the house at the store)

  • Thank you - Read as day-do

  • Here go - Or here you go, when she hands us something.

  • Bin-din-bocks - Building blocks - I was surprised she knew this word but she must play with them at daycare.

  • Bless you - when someone sneezes!

  • Heyo Cabo, Daddy - Yes Teagan says hello, not just hi.

18 Months

Well today Teagan is 18 months old and I have a couple of stories / pictures to share.

If you've followed our blog, facebook, phone conversations at all .. you'll realize that Teagan is very much in a "buckle" mood. That is - she's all about anything and everything that buckles. The high chair, car seat, booster chair, anything! So a week ago or so I researched online and the only "buckle" toy I could find that I thought was worth it was Bucky the Turtle. I really wished he was a cuter animal - dog, cat, bear, bunny... something - but I decided to buy Bucky instead. I not only liked that he had four different types of buckles attached, he also had a zipper on the back of his shell and numbers, shapes and colors all over him. Think of the learning possibilities!
Perfect timing, Bucky showed up on our doorstep today. Needless to say - the pictures speak for themselves. She can't get enough and after she buckles them all up, claps and says "yay!!" she shoves it in our face and says "OFF! OFF!" (or her way of saying unbuckle please momma/daddy)

Other Items worth mentioning - Teagan has now graduated from a full blown high chair, to a space save high chair, to a booster seat - minus tray - pushed up to the table. It saves a lot of room in our small kitchen given that nither high chair ever pushed under the table for storage.

Did your mom ever say "no elbows on the table" - well with Teagan we have to say "no feet on the table". I'm not sure what it is but eversince I can remember she's ate with her feet pressing on something. It had always been toes pushed up to the edge of the table or edge of the high chair tray, now that she's minus tray it's taken on a whole new monster of legs, toes, feet all over everything.

Pictures to follow once blogger will let us.

Over the past couple weeks Teagan has learned to master the stairs. Instead of crawling up and going down on her butt she now walks them both up and down. We took down our railing when we hung the baby gates months ago however because our banister has posts she uses those to gain her balance and not topple over.
A couple days back when we were walking down the stairs she started off bending down, like she would if she were going down butt first... however it was like a light switch of turned on because all of the sudden she stood up, rememberd she could walk down and thought to herself "what am I doing.. I can walk down... I'm a big girl". She's a very smart and determined little "big" girl.

Sunday Football

We had a nice visit from some friends today. The Oclon family and the Aschoff family came over for food and football. The Bears were playing Tampa Bay in London. The menu included chips, dips, Kelly's homemade White Chicken Chili, and cheese and pepperoni pizza from Costco. We also had some Coors and some Bloody Mary mix.

Teagan got some massive amounts of playtime in. She had an absolute blast with Makayla. They got to enjoy our newly opened basement. We finished up the basement cleaning last night so that the kids could enjoy some contained playtime without being underfoot. They were free to do what they wanted while the parents were free to do what they wanted.

Kelly and I immediately agreed that we did the right thing with the basement. The extra room is much needed. It really makes the house feel more open simply because there is another place to go. Now all we need is a couch.

I will have to have Kelly upload some pictures.

Obsessions

As we grow older, we tend to get fond of certain things. It can be somewhat dangerous if we decide to let our love of certain things grow even fonder. Obsession takes root and the next thing you know, you are on a reality show about hoarding or something like that.

Our little girl is developing an almost obsessive relation ship with several things.

1. The Wiggles - It was cute when it started. It was entertaining for her and allowed us to get some things done in the next room while she watched. It was even a great time to sit down with Teagan before bed time and watch a couple of short videos on YouTube. Now, every time we walk in the door a chat comes from the peanut gallery... "Wiggles, Wiggles, Wiggles" until we turn on something. Every time I open the computer and start it up... Teagan comes a running.

2. Bubbles - Who doesn't like bubbles? Well, sometimes I don't. Most of the time, they are my friend, especially when I need to get a messy child cleaned up. Bubble baths can be used to persuade Teagan to break away from most anything.

3. Mommy - She has to have her mommy. It is cute. I like watching the two of them interact. Quite honestly Teagan, daddy is obsessed with mommy too.
